Let’s face it, if you’re on holiday the last thing you want to be worrying about is remembering to tweet or post from your business accounts. But, if you’ve been putting in the effort to post regularly and want to maintain that activity while you’re away then here are a few things to consider.

Get someone else to do it
Easier said than done if you’re a one man band, but there are Virtual Assistants out there who could help you.

Depending on the level of control that you want, you can provide topics and draft copy or you can provide the actual posts. A VA can also monitor your social accounts and manage interactions and engagement with customers while you’re away.

Embrace scheduling
If you haven’t already embraced scheduling as a way to manage your social media then this is the time!

You don’t need much, just a couple of posts to ensure your business keeps popping up in people’s news feeds and timelines.

Plan, schedule and relax.

Buffer is one way to manage multiple platforms, or if you’re just on Facebook you can schedule from within FB itself. If you’re largely on Instagram then Grum is worth a look.

Don’t get confused
You might be on holiday but do your audience want to see photos of you at the airport or relaxing by the pool?

Keep the selfies and holiday snaps for your personal accounts.

If you do see something relevant to your business then by all means share it through the business page (or store the photos to use for future content) but just keep your audience in mind.

Shut up shop
Of course, you may decide that a simple post stating that you’re taking a well earned rest is all you need.

Include contact details if you want, or just let people know your response times may be a little slower than normal.

Remember to follow it up with a “We’re back” post when you return.

Switch Off
If you want to truly switch off from social media than consider removing the apps from your phone while you’re away.

If the thought of that brings you out in cold sweats then navigate to Settings / Notifications (the actual names might vary slightly on each platform but those are the keywords to look for) and adjust to a level you’re comfortable with.
